Our work

Doorstep Delivery

Books and study material delivered to the child's door, free of cost.

A ReadoBook volunteer handing something to a young child on a Pune street, the child's mother standing beside them.

The gap

Why this is needed.

A library that is three bus changes away is not a library a ten-year-old can use.

For a family working daily wages, the trip costs a fare and half a day's earnings — twice, because the books have to go back.

So the collection sits full and the children who need it most are the ones who never arrive.

Our approach

What we actually do.

  • We move the distance instead of asking the child to.
  • Requests come in by phone, WhatsApp or through this site, and a volunteer brings the material to the house.
  • There is no delivery charge, no deposit and no membership fee.

How it works

Start to finish.

These steps happen in order, every time.

  1. Step 1

    A request comes in

By phone, WhatsApp, or the request form on this site.

  2. Step 2

    We confirm what is needed

Class, subject, language, and whether anything else is missing.

  3. Step 3

    A volunteer takes it out

Grouped by area so one trip serves several families.

  4. Step 4

    We stay in touch

So the next set arrives when the child moves up a class, not a year later.

Impact

What this has added up to.

We have not published figures for this programme yet.

ReadoBook keeps its own records of what goes out and to whom. Those numbers will be published here once the foundation has reconciled them and can name the period they cover.

How you can help
